It's John's very first Chinese New Year and we've had a hectic few days. Though he was sans gong gong and mama (they went to Perth to to visit sil), he had daddy and mummy all to himself. :)
The festivities started with a reunion dinner at our place. Our helper Tess had cooked up a storm and the relatives congregated for a night of feasting and fun. There was a slight glitch right at the beginning when I realised that the yu sheng I bought from Long Beach was missing the vital ingredient - the sweet sauce! We had to improvise by using honey instead. Phew.
The first day we went to my aunt's and then to my mum's (she had an open house). My mum had ordered 1000 satay for the afternoon, and thought that seemed like a ton, all of us gobbled all of 800 sticks! Apparently, satay goes very well with wine. I will definitely try that when I stop breastfeeding.
We visited my grandmother on the second day and my mum's side of the family had an 8-course lunch at River View Hotel. James' side of the family then gathered at an uncle's new house for the evening.
Today we went for lunch with some relatives and went to pick the in-laws up from the airport.
John playing with great grandma.
Generally the bub was wonderful during this festive season. He's been cooperative and absolutely loves the company. He even got to stay up past his 7pm bedtime a couple of nights. :) But it's been wonderful seeing him warm up to all the aunties and uncles, cousins, great grandma and friends. After these few days, I can definitely say that we heart Chinese New Year. :)
