Me & my bump

My tummy started to show at about 18 weeks. Till that point, I had been wearing all my normal clothes. But as my thickening waistline started to protest, I realised it was time to take out my little stash of maternity clothes.

Till today, I have mostly only used my maternity bottoms. Very early on in my preganancy, a friend of mine alerted me of Thyme Maternity's 20% storewide sale and I trotted down there and invested in maternity jeans and trousers. I am one who believes that God's timing is perfect and I am very fortunate to be preganant at a time where the baby-doll and the 60s/70s waistless blouses have made a comeback. I can still confidently walk into any clothes shop knowing I will be able to find an outfit that would fit, hide or even complement my growing tum. Till this fashion trend gets thrown out the window, I'm relishing every moment of it. :o)

Back to my timeline...

29 January 2008 - My first detailed scan. This was THE scan... the day I was to know whether I'd be hitting the stores for girlie frocks or cute little boy bermudas. I was VERY excited... reporting 10 minutes early for my appointment. Unfortunately, it was the same day many other women were having their scans and I had to wait a full 40 minutes before being called into this tiny room with this huge machine. 10 minutes into the scan, I plucked up the courage to ask the radiologist what the sex of my baby was (she looked really fierce, and I was obviously in a very compromising position). "Most likely a boy" she said. :o) So... bermudas it is!!! Gender aside, the report of the detailed scan was positive all round. My baby weighed an estimated 324g, which is big for a 19 week baby, and HEALTHY - so Praise God for that!

2 February 2008 - Baby XY kicked! I had been waiting anxiously for this moment to come, and when it finally happened, it was all I imagined it to be. I was lying in bed in the morning and just having a moment to myself, when he decided to do a David Beckham on me. The first kick was soft and I wasn't sure it was really a kick, but then he did it again... and again, and by then it was soooo obvious! I whipped out my mobile and messaged James right away! Throughout that day, and ever since then, he's been really active inside. Will I have a budding little soccer player in the future? I'm sure daddy wouldn't mind. :o)

Chinese New Year's coming up in a couple of days, and I'm really looking forward to it. It will be the first time I'll be introducing my bump to the relatives and some friends. Let's hope they love it as much as I do.
